Chiropractic

Chiropractic is based on the scientific fact that our bodies are designed as self-regulating and self-healing organisms. The brain, spinal cord, and nerves are intricately involved in this process. When the spine is misaligned, the nervous system is not able to function properly, which results in disharmony throughout the body. By realigning the spine, the cells, tissues, and organs are able to function at an optimal level and are better able to resist, and potentially heal, disease.

Chiropractic can be used to treat different types of health problems, many of which are the same type of problems people face. Some of these include injuries, muscle spasms, disc problems, spinal pain, neurological problems, leg weakness, paralysis, seizures, and others.

How do I know my pet needs Chiropractic care?

Common signs your pet may show when needing chiropractic care:
  • Slowing down on walks
  • Getting up and down with difficulty
  • Not jumping or running like they used to
  • Showing signs of sensitivity or discomfort when you pet or touch them
  • Dragging the feet
  • Lameness or abnormal gait
  • Arching or swaying of the back
  • Not wagging the tail anymore
  • Difficulty chewing
  • Injuries from accidents or falls

What can I expect from a Chiropractic appointment?

Chiropractic is a drug-free approach to pet health care.  It focuses on the nervous system inside the spinal column.  By keeping the nervous system healthy, there are benefits for all the body systems.  Chiropractic treatment will surprise you and your pet with how gentle it is.  Each vertebrae will be felt by hand to determine the mobility of the joint. The ones that aren’t moving properly will receive a quick, gentle movement to restore the proper motion. Adjustments may be made to the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hips, knees, and ankles.

What can I expect after a Chiropractic appointment?

After the Chiropractic adjustment, your pet may be quiet for the next 24-48 hours.  This is considered normal and should be temporary as the body gets accustomed to the realignment.  Using cold packs on the sites that were adjusted can help with any discomfort.  Wrap a cold pack (bags of frozen peas work very well) in a thin towel and place on the body for 5-10 minutes 3-4 times a day.  Please allow the time and space for your pet to rest in comfort.
