FAQ
1. What services does Holistic Veterinary Care provide?
There are four branches of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine – Acupuncture, Herbal Medicine, Food Therapy, and Tui-na. In addition to these modalities, we also offer Chiropractic, Cold Laser Therapy, and supplements. Each treatment plan will be unique to your pet.
2. What species of animals are treated here?
Dr. Bevins currently cares for dogs and cats.
3. Do I really need to fill out the forms before my appointment?
Holistic medicine entails collecting information about your pet's lifestyle, diet, preferences, vaccination history, and historical ailments. This complete history will be important information to aid in finding a diagnosis and formulating a treatment for your dog or cat. Since gathering a complete history can be a lengthy process, filling out the guardian information, pet information, and client acceptance forms prior to your appointment, will greatly decrease your time in the waiting room.

4. What can I expect at my first appointment?
Your first appointment will be 60-90 minutes in length. During this time, an exam will be done, Dr. Bevins will administer different modalities of treatment if necessary, and we will discuss a treatment plan tailored specifically for your pet.
5. Is it painful for my pet to have Chiropractic and/or Acupuncture?
Chiropractic treatment will surprise you and your pet with how gentle it is. Each vertebrae will be felt by hand to determine the mobility of the joint. The ones that aren’t moving properly will receive a quick, gentle movement to restore the proper motion.
In dogs and cats, the placement of the acupuncture needles is virtually painless. In all animals, once the needle has been placed, there should be no pain. Most dogs and cats become very relaxed and sleepy. As in humans, acupuncture treatment on pets may cause some uncomfortable sensations such as numbness, cramps, or tingles.
6. How can I expect my pet to act after a Chiropractic and/or Acupuncture treatment?
Your pet may want to sleep or may seem uncomfortable after an adjustment and/or Acupuncture, but this is only temporary as the body gets accustomed to the realignment. These effects are an indication that physiological changes are developing, and they are most often followed by an improvement in the animal’s condition.
7. What is a raw food diet?
Enzymes found in fresh, raw foods play an important role in digestion and ultimately support your pet's overall physical and mental health. Enzymes allow your pet's body to absorb essential nutrients he or she wouldn't otherwise benefit from. By feeding a raw diet, your pet's body is able to utilize those nutrients, making the immune system stronger.
