Laser Therapy

Whether your pet is rehabilitating from trauma or injury, healing from wounds, or simply aging, your companion will benefit from this revolutionary new approach to veterinary medicine.

At Holistic Veterinary Care, we use t
he GradyVet P-3000 class 3b laser.  This is a  noninvasive, coherent light laser, also known as a “cold laser.”  Unlike surgical or class 4 lasers that produce heat and thermo-destructive laser energy, class 3b lasers produce no harm to cells or tissues. Cold laser therapy has demonstrated medical efficacy and safety through clinical studies for over 30 years.

Cold laser uses a beam of light to stimulate damaged cells to produce more energy.  The overall cellular function is increased, allowing for rapid absorption of nutrients, elimination of wastes, and reproduction of new cells.  The new cellular activity aids in:
  • Alleviating chronic or acute pain
  • Reducing inflammation
  • Increasing circulation
  • Speeding up healing and recovery
  • Release of endorphin, the body's natural pain reliever

Through research, it has been shown that many acute and chronic conditions can be improved, or in some cases, resolved with cold laser therapy.  Specific examples of conditions include:

Musculoskeletal Conditions
  • Arthritis
  • Elbow and hip dysplasia
  • Intervertebral disk disease
  • Nerve root pain/nerve damage/degenerative myelopathy/facial nerve paralysis
  • Partial cruciate ligament tear
  • Muscle sprains
  • Spondylosis

Skin Conditions
  • Wound healing (post-op incisions)
  • Moist dermatitis (hot spots)
  • Lick granulomas
  • Pemphigus
  • Alopecia (hair loss)
  • Stomatitis
  • Neurodermatitis

What should I expect during a laser therapy session on my pet?

Cold laser treatments are painless.  Your pet will not experience any vibration, pulsating shock, or heat. The only sensation felt is that of the laser head coming into contact with your pet's skin.

Cold laser therapy is an excellent alternative for pets who don’t tolerate the needles used during acupuncture treatment.

Depending on the severity and duration of the presenting condition, the number of cold laser therapy sessions for your pet will vary.  Some pets experience relief after the first treatment!
There are no known side effects from administration of cold laser therapy.
